Gordon Brown

What a hypocritical wanker. Trying to criticise the Tories calling for English votes on English issues as threatening the union. Laughable. The only reason we need new laws are because of the devolution Brown and labour introduced. So special treatment of the Scots is ok, but equality for the English is a slipary slope. Cock.
I guess it's because labour has lots of Scottish MPs and they'd be screwed if they couldn't vote on English issues. Despite the laws they vote on not affecting their constituencies. It's a travesty of democracy no other country would stand for. I know it may not seem a big thing right now, but the more powers Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland get, the more England will suffer. Labour will use its Scottish MPs to force through unpopular bills on England, the MPs won't have to worry about unpopularity in their constituencies. Either we have to stop Scottish MPs voting on issues not affecting their constituencies or establish an English parliament to make things fair and equal.
This is typical political English bashing. Some misconception of us as an evil oppressive empire who were unfairly ruling over Scotland seems to be out there. The Act of Union 300 years ago was a voluntary agreement between two countries. England never ruled Scotland there was a British Parliament. Except now Scotland is in effect ruling over part of us. I wish English people were less complacent about their position in the world. Yes there are more of us than there are Scots, so! I guess this is just another form of majority bashing identity politics. Find yourself a special interest group, the normal are doomed. I agree that there must be safeguards in a democracy against majority mob rule, its called the law. But the current obsession with minority rights is just antidemocratic. You have more chance of being given a say if you are in a minority, maybe not through representation directly as in winning elections, but through single issue pressure groups.
Anyway, I'm getting off the point. Just remember your democracy is alreasy threatened. It's not racist to be English don't be ashamed, the Scots want their say in their country, stand up and fight for yours.

Intro

Hi, this is just a quick intro to me and my new place to go on about things that piss me off.
I like discussing 'political' issues, i.e. things that annoy me and I need some where I can rant anonymously with no interruptions, then hopefully get some replies and have some interesting debates. I may occassionally be contraversial for fun, but I'll try and be honest without considering if anyone's offended or not (either to avoid offense or deliberately offend). To understand where I'm coming from (although who I am should have no impact on the validity of any arguments) I introduce me:
I am English (and proud). I am a scientist. I am a strong atheist. My political views are right of centre, I favour a smaller state, with more individual freedom and responsibility. I dislike political correctness and people who see everything in black and white. I am more pragmatic and probably slightly selfish and amoral. These will be the basis of my rants (I think polemic is a bit pretentious, but maybe I'll get better.
Enjoy, and please comment, especially if you disagree!
